Walking for Cardiac Risk in the Young
System Edström is stepping up next month by raising money to help save lives at risk from young sudden cardiac death.
On Saturday 1st August, our intrepid team of three – Chris Angel, Harvey Wright and Joff Brown – will take on the North Downs 50 Challenge (albeit the 25km route, as two of us are old) in support of Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
Every week in the UK, at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed cardiac conditions. CRY raises awareness to help prevent young sudden cardiac deaths, offers subsidised ECG and echocardiogram screening to young people between the ages of 14 and 35, and supports affected families.
This is a worthy cause to support and one that means a lot to us. Our Wholesale Account Executive Harvey Wright says: “It’s a charity that’s close to my heart because if Harborough Town football club didn’t have a defibrillator, my mate wouldn’t be alive today. Young people can easily reach adulthood without ever having their heart checked. CRY are trying to change that by encouraging young people to get their hearts checked for any irregularities.”
