Among the principal vehicles on our fleet of demonstrators are our three Volkswagen ID. Buzz vans. Each is configured differently to highlight the versatility of our conversions and their suitability for a range of day-to-day tasks.
First among these is our workshop-specification ID. Buzz. This conversion installed in this vehicle is designed to demonstrate how our products can be used for drivers who need to use their vehicle as a mobile workshop.
The challenge
This vehicle is kitted out with a range of items designed to help the driver to carry out their day-to-day work.
For a mobile technician, or other skilled person who uses the vehicle as a mobile workshop, it is essential that the van provides sufficient space for all the required tools and equipment, along with space to carry out any jobs that need to be performed on site.
It is also imperative that the installation in the van keeps all tools and equipment well organised, so that everything is easy to find, and secure. Lighting and power are also required in most cases.
The solution
By using our powerful online design tool, Drop and Draw (DnD), we designed a comprehensive solution to meet these requirements. This consisted of a selection of storage options, including shelving and drawers, a vice and work bench, an on-board power supply and lighting.
The workbench is placed laterally within the van at an appropriate height and accessible from the tailgate to make it easy to work at. This allows the user to stand outside the vehicle while working at the bench, while the tailgate itself provides some shelter. The vice is attached to the bench, to allow secure clamping of items when required. Our large extended drawers are fitted beneath the false floor to maximise the storage space.
Above the workbench, we installed our slide-out shelves for easier access to components, and another shelf to carry our green accessory bins. These can be removed from the van and taken to the job site. There is also a dropfront, which allows safe storage of items, minimising shifting while the vehicles in motion. Pegboards either side allow the use of accessories like hooks and holders.
Opening the van from the right-hand side door, we find the onboard power source for charging laptops, power tools and other items, and an extension cord to plug in multiple devices at once. site. There is a pegboard with first-aid kit and more shelving space and a pegboard tray.
On the other side, we have a pegboard and document holder for paperwork, two tool cases holders for small consumables that can be lifted out and taken to site, plus airline rails with cargo straps to secure items on the floor. A final underfloor drawer maximises the space. There’s also a 2kg fire extinguisher with strap.
The entire set-up adds up to a comprehensive solution that can provide tradespeople in any industry what they need to get the job done.
